Patient having a routine dental check-up

Check-ups

Small checkups. Long-term smile health.

Coming in for regular check-ups is a simple way to keep your oral health on track and make sure we catch the small things before they turn into something more serious.

Seeing your dentist once a year for a routine check-up is one of the simplest and most important things you can do for your oral health. These appointments help make sure everything is on track and give you peace of mind. They also allow us to keep a complete picture of your dental health, so if something ever does come up, we’re in the best position to help you early on - quickly and effectively. Regular check-ups are also a great way to ease dental anxiety — the more familiar the experience, the less intimidating it feels. And let’s be honest — who doesn’t like hearing that everything looks great and getting a well-deserved pat on the back from their dentist?

FAQs

How long is the appointment itself?

General check-ups are usually quite quick appointments. The appointment will never take longer than 20-30 minutes, however, if everything is as it should be, you might be done even quicker.

How long do I have to wait for an appointment?

We recommend that you give yourself about 2-3 weeks in advance, just to make sure we can offer you an appointment on a date and at a time that would suit you best. We do have same-day appointments as well sometimes, but we are always prioritising emergency patients for those check-up appointments.

What happens at the time of the appointment?

When you come in for a check-up, we will start by making sure your details are up to date and checking if you’ve had any issues since your last visit. The dentist will have a good look at your teeth, gums, and mouth, checking for any signs of decay, gum problems, or anything unusual. They might take X-rays if needed, just to get a full picture. They will also screen for things like oral cancer as part of your exam, which is quick and painless.

If anything needs attention, the dentist will talk you through your options and costs clearly — no surprises! Sometimes, you will also have a scale and polish either during your check-up or with our hygienist separately. It’s all very straightforward, and we are here to make sure you feel comfortable and cared for the whole way through.
